About MUMASK

Journey through the rich and fascinating story of MUMASK over the years.

Our story

In 1947, Charles Deliège, Mayor, and Samuel Glotz came up with the idea of creating a museum dedicated to the Binche Carnival and met with the Director of the Arts and Letters Administration of the Ministry of Culture.

Not convinced by the idea of a museum focused solely on a local event, the Director persuaded the Binche duo to broaden their concept to include other carnivals — extending their vision to a European, even global, scale.

In 1962, an exhibition titled “Carnival in Wallonia” was held at the Municipal Theatre.
